DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and skilled performance of a variety of masonry tasks and odd jobs requiring thorough knowledge of the trade. General instructions are received regarding tasks to be performed, permitting considerable leeway in planning the details of each assignment. Supervision is exercised over the work of laborers and helpers. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
- Builds and repairs concrete bridges and retaining walls, and headwalls of concrete and rubble stone;
- Builds and repairs catch basins, manholes, guide posts and monuments;
- Assists in general highway construction and maintenance tasks;
- May operate a motor vehicle with snow plow, sander and related attachments in the removal of snow and ice;
- Performs a variety of related activities as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and accident precautions of the trade; ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral instructions; ability to operate cement mixing equipment; ability to lay out work for self and others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years of experience in building with stone, brick, and/or concrete.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Access to transportation may be required to complete possible field work assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
