APPROVAL/LOCAL LAW TO REVISE SECTION 12.20 OF THE PUTNAM COUNTY
CHARTER ENTITLED “BUREAU OF EMERGENCY SERVICES; COMMISSIONER”
A Local Law to Revise Section 12.20 of the Putnam County Charter
Be it Enacted by the Putnam County Legislature as follows:
Section 1.
Section 12.20 of the Putnam County Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
12.20 Bureau of Emergency Services; Commissioner
There shall be a Bureau of Emergency Services under the direction of a Commissioner of
the Bureau of Emergency Services who shall be appointed by the County Executive.
Such appointment shall be subject to a vote of two-thirds (2/3) confirmation of the
County Legislature. The Commissioner shall be directly responsible to and shall serve at
the pleasure of the County Executive. He or she shall be appointed on the basis of his or
her training and experience in the administration of emergency services efforts.
Section 2.
This Local Law shall take effect forty-five days after its passage and is subject to a
permissive referendum.
