APPROVAL/LOCAL LAW/ AMEND ARTICLE 2, SECTION 2.02/PUTNAM COUNTY
CHARTER/ENTITLED “TERM”
A Local Law to Amend Article 2, Section 2.02 of the Putnam County Charter Entitled
“Term”
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the County of Putnam as follows:
Section 1.
Article 2, Section 2.02 of the Putnam County Charter is hereby amended to read as
follows:
§2.02. Term.
(a) The County Legislators shall be elected for terms of three years at the general
elections hereinafter provided and every three years thereafter:
(1) At the general election held in November of 2011, County Legislators from
Legislative Districts Two, Three and Eight shall be elected for said term of
three years.
(2) At the general election held in November of 2012, County Legislators from
Legislative Districts One, Four and Seven shall be elected for said term of
three years.
(3) At the general election held in November of 2013, County Legislators from
Legislative Districts Five, Six and Nine shall be elected for said term of three
years.
(b) No person shall be elected to a full term of the office of County Legislator more
than four times, and no person who has held the office of County Legislator, or
acted as County Legislator for more than one and one half (1½) years of a term to
which some other person was elected County Legislator shall be elected to a full
term of the office of County Legislator more than three times.
Section 2.
This local law shall take effect on February 1, 2012 or forty-five (45) days after its
adoption, subject to referendum or petition in accordance with the provisions of Section
24 of the New York State Municipal Home Rule Law, whichever occurs last.
