PIN 8757.65 Drewville Rd. Bridge over W Branch Croton River

June 08, 2023

8/25/23

The prestressed concrete beams for the deck were placed on the 15th of August with the wingwalls and abutments being poured on 8/24/2023. The drainage and intersection work is ongoing and will necessitate periodic lane closures on Seminary Hill Rd. and Cherry Hill Rd. Please be attentive of the traffic control measures in place in and around the construction area as this important infrastructure improvement project progresses. The project is on schedule and should be complete later this fall.

May 31st was Demolition Day for the steel superstructure of the Drewville Road Bridge. The entirety of the outdated deck structure was successfully removed and hauled offsite. This location of Drewville Road has been closed to traffic since May 18, and both car and truck detours seem to be working well.  The project is on schedule with Drewville Rd. anticipated to be reopened later this Fall.

Beginning in early May, work will commence on removing and replacing the Drewville Road Bridge in between the Cherry Rd. and Seminary Hill Rd. intersections.  The existing structure is in poor condition due to significant rust and perforation of critical members.  The bridge will be replaced in the same location with a single span, pre-stressed concrete box beam structure with integral abutments.  The new bridge will meet NYSDOT current design and resiliency standards.

In order to remove the bridge, Drewville Road will be closed at this location until a replacement structure is complete. Alternative plans to keep single lanes open and/or to construct a temporary bypass road were thoroughly considered by The County and its Design Engineers, McLaren Engineering. Per the current schedule, barring weather and unforeseen problem delays, the road will be reopened in Fall 2023.  A detour route for cars and a separate truck detour will be marked out by signs.  We ask the public to please safely follow the signs.  The Town of Carmel will provide additional enforcement within the construction and detour areas.
